I'm playing a conjuration/necromancer character, and I should have some very interesting adventures in the near future. So ready your Thu'um, and prepare for Skyrim!

Our youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/disciplesofthedice
I worked out the volume issue from last video, but this time it didn't record the game sounds, only my voice. The subtitles are on, so its not too bad, but some things don't make any sense without context of the game sounds. Luckily, I know why that was, and it is now fixed, so next episode should be problem free! This episode, I escaped the Helgen keep, after lighting myself on fire! I should have another episode up in a couple of days, so I can continue my adventure! Enjoy!
We are back! And with a whole host of new content in the coming weeks, including something which we promised over eight months ago, but was delayed due to laziness... MINECRAFT MONDAYS!

That's right, every Monday, we will post a new video for all our dedicated followers.

(Yes i realize that it's not Monday, but we didn't realize that it Monday was until 11 PM... so yeah.)

So for our first episode, Typhus and I talked a little bit about the mod we will be using (which i will link in a moment), we died a couple of times, wandered around and basically sucked. So get ready for 20 minutes of us playing the way we know how.... badly!

Humble Indie Bundle V includes Amnesia: the Dark Descent, Bastion, Braid, LIMBO, Lone Survivor, Psychonauts, Superbrothers: Swords and Sworcery EP and Super Meat Boy. For around $10. I'm not sure if you know this, but I did the research, and then I did the math, and that is a FANTASTIC DEAL. There's only a day left, but seriously, check this out; http://www.humblebundle.com/.The_Horse_with_Hornshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13755508332061736183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924792937086134016.post-44436135469541433722012-06-04T23:01:00.001-04:002012-06-04T23:01:31.617-04:00E3 impressionsE3 2012 has thus far been a fantastic disappointment. Microsoft's Halo 4 looks to be bringing very little to the table that wasn't in previous Halo games; a few more enemies, better graphics, Cortana going insane. In fairness, the whole "Insane AI" thing may be new to Halo, but the idea itself is ground that has been thoroughly tread in previous years/decades/pretty much as long as the idea of AI has existed. So congratulations to 343 Studios for continuing Halo's trend of lackluster, completely uninteresting story-telling.
It's looking like Sony's coming out with a large amount of third-party support for its PS Vita, and I'm greatly intrigued by Assassin's Creed Liberation. So far the third generation of AssCreed games feature a half-Native North American protagonist and a female protagonist of indeterminate ethnic origin. We'll see how Ubisoft handles its diversity. The Vita is also getting Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified. I'm unsure how to feel about this, as I'm not a fan of the CoD franchise, but given that its popularity eclipses masturbation, at this point it's looking like a great business move for Sony. I like the sound of the Assassin White Vita, though; I may just pick that up! They're also adding a WiiU-esque functionality to the Vita for the PS3, making the Vita a very desirable handhold (why it couldn't have just been desirable at launch I don't know, but in Sony's defense they're picking up the pieces of their shattered handhold venture very admirably).
More from Sony: J.K. Rowling has teamed up with them to release a PS Move game called Book of Spells. Interesting. As well, a Super Smash Bros. sort of game for the PS3 is on the horizon, PlayStation AllStars. I find it interesting, but given how many games have involved series/franchise crossovers in prior years that Sony has only now jumped on the idea. It looks to be a great game though.
The game that has most piqued my interest is The Last of Us, which is apparently a very emotional take on the idea of apocalypse. It involves a grizzled badass and a younger, teenage girl who have banded together for safety, and developed somewhat of a father-daughter bond (take a guess as to who you play as). I find this interesting, because I haven't seen or played many games that take a more personal and emotional approach to storytelling and focused on character development, which this game looks to do. I'm excited, to say the least!
Tomorrow I'll go over the rest of E3, this is a tad rushed. Other announcements included a new Gears of War, a new God of War, a new Sim City, and many more interesting games and many uninteresting firmware upgrades to the Xbox that I didn't get to cover. Tomorrow!Phearbrohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17653763841635781369noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924792937086134016.post-75047082348128879862012-05-28T22:08:00.003-04:002012-05-29T11:12:14.271-04:00Well... here's somethingTo put it simply, not all went well. Due to some tight scheduling with various other events, the Disciples were only able to play the D&D Next Beta for a little while, Nevertheless, much was learned and we have no intention of stopping quite yet. Hopefully we'll be able to play some more, but here's what we've learned so far.
1. Being a fighter is hilarious.
No really. Combat has been slightly tweaked in order to make sure that those who should be good at combat, or just have a good opportunity, will likely succeed with a great new advantage system. More importantly, fighters will always dish out damage equal to their strength (with a certain trait), even if their attacks miss. This meant that our fighter was knocking down at least one Kobold a turn, no matter what.
2. Its good being DM.
You know all of the times your DM would let you perform an action without a roll because you set it up so well, or if he'd deny you the opportunity of jumping to the moons before the dice hit the table (despite the risk of angering the dice gods). Well now that's cannon. It may not be a big deal, but its good to know that Wizards is paying attention.
3. Everything is simpler.
It's true that this is our first time using a pre-made campaign, but there just seems to be something more pure about next. You don't have to flip through your character sheet looking for information. It's all laid out nicely, and there not much to master. That might just be the Beta leaving out content, but it feels good just slipping into a character and enjoying the company and the story. Its a good D&D set-up. That is all.The_Horse_with_Hornshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13755508332061736183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924792937086134016.post-88406266107389433732012-05-25T09:16:00.000-04:002012-05-28T22:10:25.741-04:00D&D Next AnnouncementAs you may have heard from anywhere else worth reading on the internet, the next edition of D&D has officially entered its Beta, and free playtest set are being given out for review. Being who we are and having the purpose that we do, the Disciples are going to try and meet up this weekend and test play D&D Next. If all goes well there be a review posted by Monday.The_Horse_with_Hornshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13755508332061736183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924792937086134016.post-51482364730864445932012-05-19T21:36:00.001-04:002012-05-19T21:36:32.174-04:00WarmachineRecently after running out of the time required to play Warhammer on a regular basis, myself and a few friends picked up the game, Warmachine.

For those who don't know, Warmachine is based around a steampunk world and is a skirmish game that focuses on brutal conflict between giant steam powered robots called Warjacks.

As with any game, the first and probably most important step is to choose a faction. For me it was the Protectorate of Menoth, mainly because I liked the idea of approaching every game with the intent of setting shit on fire.
So without further ado, a review.

Sequence- Mmmmmm
So a couple of months ago I got into a rhythm game originally released on XBLA now available on Steam, called Sequence (if you hadn't of guessed). Although flawed, I thoroughly enjoyed Sequence and I'm basically going to try an shove some info down your throat about it. The game focuses on two main characters, Ky and Naia, who have been thrown together by fate, with the goal of reaching the top of the tower that Ky is trapped in. Naia speaks to Ky through the intercom and tries to keep him alive as they progress through the tower. A lot of the plot is kept a mystery, so I'm going to try and avoid to many spoilers, but suffice it to say, I think the end will surprise you, even if not pleasantly. The plot isn't really Sequence's strongest point either, as we are the end attempts to leave a sense of mystery or intrigue, but instead simply fails to cap the story off, and leaves it open an unsatisfying. The progression throughout is light-hearted however, and the lack of any particular connection to the characters can be ignored in favour of the comedy. Something that may change you game experience is how fond you are of puns. Basically every item in the game has a pun in the description. ALL OF THEM. THERE ARE QUITE A FEW. Being a RPG- Rhythm game and all (did I mention its and RPG- Rhythm game? Its totally an RPG- Rhythm game.) it has a decent amount of items to equip yourself with, along with some different kinds of spells that you can sub in and out to create a good build for you character, like any good RPG. The interesting part of Sequence is the combat mechanic and core gameplay. Imagine playing a guitar solo every time you tried to cast a spell. And then play one to build mana, along with one not to die. Sequence gives you three rotating screen to attack, defend, and recharge your man form. Its difficult to get into at first, but it will begin to feel ever so rewarding when your flip to build man between defensive notes to cast that final spell you need. Accompanied by song fantastic tracks, Sequence has all of the addicting features of Guitar Hero, but now along a cohesive narrative with tangible goal. Pretty great for a $5 game. If you aren't bothered by some out of place particle effects, lack of animation, and puns, Sequence is definitely worth your time.The_Horse_with_Hornshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13755508332061736183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924792937086134016.post-80712358721439053532012-05-06T17:08:00.002-04:002012-05-06T17:08:31.298-04:00And We're BackI know You many viewers have been simply crushed that we haven't been posting more, but you know what they say about the best layed plans. From this point on however, we will be trying to post at least once a week in an effort to get some actual content on the site. We have all been very busy as of late, and as such, were unable to post as often as we would have liked. We have not however been idle. Myself and some other members of our group of friends have picked up Warmachine recently, and LOVE it! I've been trying to get some of the other members of the group to start playing warhammer and what not more often. And I'm finally building myself an actual gaming table. So expect some actual updates at some point in the future. Happy gaming.
However, some other people, like the arguably sentient people here at DotDG, reflect on stupid things. So in the spirit of the new year (and my inability to sleep/ form coherent thoughts), here is my Top Ten list for What Games Workshop has done this year to screw over everyone but them (don’t sue?)

10. Resin Models

I know you probably like the Finecast models , I like them too. They have a really nice feel to them, they seem to be quite sturdy, and the detail you get is unbelievable. But, as many of you may have noticed, they kicked up the prices again. Now, you might say, come on horns, be fair, it is more detailed and a nicer material; they just needed to compensate for that. Under normal circumstances, that would be a valid argument. But this is GW. Bull-shit that model costs $20 to make.

9. Did you ever notice how when there’s a bad movie coming out, there’s a butt load of ads for that as well? Any correlation between the two? And you probably still wasted your money on it. You heartless bastards.

8. But let me give you this piece of advice. Monitor exactly how much of your disposable income goes to GW this year, and put it in relativity to everything else. Then you’;; understand the answers to you own questions.

7. Dark Eldar Update- (Eldar are for pussies)

They might look impressive, and they might play well, but the hardest part about playing an Eldar army was never outdated models. It was telling your parents that you were gay. Same rules applied for Dark Eldar, its just implied that you also enjoy masochism. Also, if we’re going to have super detailed models, way are Dark Eldar Prisoners still in metal?

6. At this point is Ultramar really worth destroying Earth for? (Perhaps adding injury to insult would have been a more apt phrase)

5. I thought we acknowledged that they were trolling when they came out with the “Eavy Metal” spray gun, but this is a legitimate product? WHY?!?!?! I know that they claim that it has nicer brush bristles or some other qualities, but they’re really just selling it with that dumb name.

4. GW eats independent manufacturers for breakfast, and has small internet successes for dinner. That is a fact. (It is also fact that they skip lunch, the bastards)

3. For either Warhammer fantasy, or Warhammer 40k. We may eventually showcase the armies of other people we know, but for now it will just be our armies. I will begin with a few pictures of my most recent army, the Death Guard.
This army was only started a few months ago, when i purchased a box of chaos space marines for a painting clinic that was being run at our Friendly Local Game Store, or FLGS. I decided to paint the marines I purchased in the colour scheme of the death guard, as I thought it could lead to some interesting conversions, and some excellent painting opportunities. One recurring theme through out my army is the skin tone, i wanted to give my plague marines a grey flesh tone, almost like rotting flesh. I find this, along with the orange glowing eyes, just serves to further dehumanize them, showing how much there betrayal of the emperor has transformed into physical corruption. One thing i loved about the old metal deathguard models, were the special weapons, like the flamer where the fuel tank was replaced by a giant pustule! I wanted to try and recreate some of those weapons through converting the more recent flamers.I am currently trying to expand this army up to apocalyptic proportions, to get some more boots on the ground next time I face Archaon's nids. Hopefully I can showcase my deathguard again once they've grown a bit in size, but for now, they'll just have to wait while I get my Blood Angels ready for the next in store tournament.
An actual reason to read this blog, a chill session with two of the posters playing Minecraft, full release (AHHHHHHHH I LOVE MINECRAFT), but unfortunately, it seems we’re going to have take some of it back now, because you see, the server patch for Minecraft 1.0 doesn’t exactly exists yet, so we can’t actually play it. Well not together today. I’m sorry to disappoint you, our massive fan base. I know I just broke soooo many hearts tonight. Fortunately, I have a somewhat fun alternative; I had some time to play some Minecraft today. So I’m going to try and make up for the lack of group review today by writing a little story for all of you.

Note: As soon as the bukkit server patch becomes available, we will begin posting Minecraft Monday articles, and the special for the full release of Minecraft.

* And then he opened his eyes for the first time; fittingly to a beautiful sight. He looked upon a peaceful forest, his body lying softly in some sand. His clothes seemed familiar to him, but he could not tell who he was or where they had come from. Perhaps they were memoirs of tales long forgotten. He tried to remember what his life before this awakening, but his memories would not return to him. He took a deep breath, and turned to see the world around him. He was pleasantly surprised, while expecting more forest; he found he was lying on a beach, two islands in the distance. One was not very large, but seemed to have a firm ground, and the other large and mountainous. He was an opportune man, and a survivalist, so he knew what he had to do. He quickly turned, and with all the strength he had, he punched a tree right out of the ground, and quickly threw together a small work station, building an axe with it. Then he built a boat, and travelled to the smaller island.

His initial instinct were right, the ground was sturdy, good enough to build a house even. He cleared the ground and began to build his home. It was a long few days for him, but by the end of the third day, after many struggles with finding materials, and a few trips back to the original island for more lumber, his house was complete. During the house building mission, some mining was done, and coal was found within the earth.

Tired, but relieved, the man sat back, and realized he had neither slept nor eaten in the past few days, and so began his next quest; to obtain food and something soft to sleep upon. And so he went forth into, sword in hand, and pain in his stomach and heart. He leaped from the newly crafted docks, the cold water washing over his exhausted body. The cold seemed to seep inside of him, as he began to lose consciousness, but he kept moving forward. The sun began to rise just as he washed ashore. He could hardly keep his head up as he slid into the wet sand, but he was finally on land, and his fears were finally passing, or so he thought.

Suddenly, as if out of nowhere, a horrible alien monstrosity came crashing through the underbrush. Its face permanently as if in a scream, its eyes cold and lifeless, it ran at him, each footstep tearing grass from the floor. The fear jolted the man to his feet, a shaky arm pushing him out of the sand. He reached for his sword and lunged at the creature, his sword moving upwards and connected with flesh. The creature hissed as he stumbled back from the blow, but showed no fear, intent on harming the man. The man was startled at its resilience, but he had no intent of dying yet, and so he leapt into the air and drove his sword straight through the monster. A hiss erupted from the monster, and then it collapsed onto the floor, gently sliding off of the man’s sword.

The man sighed and stumbled, stabbing the earth beneath him to keep himself upright. He aligned his spine and slinked forward, his eyes darting around. And then he heard a noise that brought him infinite glee. He heard a clucking from the distance. He pulled his sword up and with his last surge of strength he ran forward and found what he had been looking for; a singular chicken, walking carelessly around. The man was over-joyed and leapt forward with no remorse. He slaughtered the chicken with one stroke, and then he began to consume what remained. He was startled by himself, the noise that he made as he ate sounding entirely foreign to him, beastly even. It scared him, but he continued none the less. The food brought him strength, but he also felt sick. He understood the risk of eating food raw, but he had no other option. He lifted his sword yet again, stretching his tired bones, and then he heard it; another hiss from behind him, and the sound of the grass being torn from the earth. *

Minecraft 1.0 really doesn’t feel any different from 1.8, especially not early on, although it feels somewhat more polished. One major note, the sound you make when you eat IS REALLY DAMN SCARY. I jumped the first time that I heard it. But ultimately, it’s still Minecraft, and now with more content, I have no doubt that I’ll spend endless more hours trying to kill that damn Enderdragon.

The_Horse_with_Hornshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13755508332061736183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924792937086134016.post-84820458310443814742011-11-17T21:54:00.010-05:002011-11-18T22:36:50.373-05:00Incoming series: Minecraft Mondays!
Hey all,

Just a short notification of an upcoming series here on Disciples of the Dice God:

Minecraft Mondays!

This will be a weekly episode in which The_Horse and I (Archaon) document our 3-Dimensional adventures in the Best-Selling game by Mojang.
